Being a law enforcement officer isn't for everyone. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department offers a variety of roles that are just as critical to keeping the community safe:
Dispatchers/911 Professional: As a Dispatcher/911 Professional, you’re the critical link between the public and first responders. You answer calls, gather vital information under pressure, and relay it quickly to officers. The role requires multitasking, clear communication, and fast decision-making in high-stress situations. Every day brings new challenges, but your work is vital in saving lives and protecting the community.
Law Enforcement Support Technician (LEST): A Law Enforcement Support Technician is an administrative professional who keeps the Department running smoothly. They conduct criminal history checks, confirm warrants, process court documents, and enter data into justice systems. LESTs serve as a bridge between officers, detectives, and the community, handling records, inquiries, and reports while exemplifying the Department’s values in every interaction.
Crime Scene Analyst (CSA): CSAs are essential in the pursuit of justice. They respond to crime scenes and meticulously document them through detailed notes, photographs, reports, diagrams, and latent print processing. CSAs work side by side with officers and detectives to identify, collect, and preserve crucial evidence. Beyond the scene, their work plays a vital role in supporting the community, helping bring clarity to investigations and closure to those affected by crime.
Forensic Scientist: Forensic scientists work in the crime lab, where they analyze physical evidence from crime scenes. Their expertise helps solve crimes by providing scientific analysis that can be used in investigations and court proceedings. They specialize in areas such as DNA analysis, toxicology, and fingerprinting.
Victim Advocate: Victim advocates provide support and resources to victims of crime. They offer crisis intervention, guidance through the legal process, and connect victims with necessary services. Their role is pivotal in ensuring victims feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout their recovery and pursuit of justice.
IT Professional: As an IT professional with LVMPD, you’ll support the technology that keeps our officers and community safe. From maintaining networks and safeguarding data to troubleshooting issues and developing solutions, your work ensures critical information flows seamlessly. Your expertise directly impacts public safety and helps keep the Department connected, secure, and mission-ready.
Helicopter Mechanic: Helicopter Mechanics are responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to ensure safe and reliable operations. They perform routine maintenance, structural repairs, and component upgrades; troubleshoot mechanical issues; and conduct preventive servicing such as lubrication, part replacement, and fuel system checks. Mechanics adapt and install new equipment, complete off-site repairs, and support aircraft check flights.
These roles, among others, demonstrate that the LVMPD offers a wide range of rewarding career paths beyond traditional policing, each integral to maintaining community safety and enhancing public trust. View our full catalog of positions here.
